Welcome: Given by Ashley Droscher
Digital Citizenship Presentation: Given by Monica Widdison. Weber School District Technical Services presented the various techniques thar are being implemented to protect children in cyberspace. Mrs. Widdison detailed the iboss filter system used by the district. This system utilizes 6 different levels of filtering and blocks dangerous websites that contain malware, inappropriate images, chat rooms, etc. The system also has social media locked down; however, permission-based usage is available but is closely monitored. Digital Management is done through MDM-Airwatch for iPads, Netsupport for laptops and Google for chromebooks.
BARK is a monitoring system used for student’s G suite applications. This system will flag questionable digital content, notifying administration of potential threats and allow parents to maintain the level of notification. A helpful resource is the book, The Art of Screen Time by Anya Kamenetz. “Enjoy screens. Not too much. Mostly together.”
Nearpod and Commonsense Media created Digital Literacy lessons that teachers can use in their classrooms. These lessons are age-appropriate ways to build skills. There are 4 to 5 lessons that are customizable and last 30 to 45 minutes. Parents can also reach out to teachers for home resources.
Be Internet Awesome is another parent resource geared to 7–12-year-olds. It is a game that helps develop digital literacy.
Budget: Given by Mrs. Breeding.
2021-22 TSSA Beginning Balance - $98,438.91 Current Balance- $58,381.67
2021-22 Trust Land Beginning Balance - $94,522.00 Current Balance- $61,690.28
Around half Trust Land funds were spent on Aide time. Newline Boards have been purchased with these funds. The goal is that eventually every teacher will have a Newline Board. TSSA funds were used for 1 to 1 technology and some Aide time.
School Business: Given by Mrs. Breeding.
- Covid #s are climbing. For sure one staff member is out with Covid, but others are out as well but are unable to test for up to 4 days due to the lack of tests.
- The Substitute issue is hard. Not enough subs. Aides are being asked to substitute rather than administering Acadience testing this week. Substitution incentives have not been published, which makes it difficult to want to substitute. If schools are not properly staffed than that would become the issue that closes the school.
- The Trustland report is still not completed because of website issues. It will hopefully be resolved by February.
- The PTA will not be doing the Twisted Sugar fundraiser this Spring to allow the school to do this fundraiser in the hopes of earning enough for the electronic marquee. Mrs. Breeding is writing a grant through the Weber School District Foundation at the beginning of the year for $5,000.
- STEAM and Literacy Night is scheduled for April 28th. Charlotte’s Web will be the theme. Fremont FFA will bring a pig and other animals. Each grade will oversee a STEM and an art activity. The PTA has offered to do popcorn. It will have a Fair like atmosphere.
- Parent Teacher Conferences are February 9-11. There will be a live or virtual option. Parents should be receiving an email with the details soon.
